> The Brisbane EKKA has a similar set up.
As it is show and tell I have attached two photos of the Brisbane Ekka which is the Brisbane Show in Queensland, Australia
The first one is from 2007 at our old Honey Court. Yours truly commenting whilst Ray works the hive. This cage was hexagonal.
The second is the new Honey Court in 2015 with a new cage which is square. Note Perspex in the end and sides of the bottom box so people can see the bees when the hive is not being worked.
We would open the hive about 4 -5 times a day and give a commentary on what is in the hive and about beekeeping in general.
The beekeepers have been at the Brisbane Show participating in the honey competition or giving public demonstrations since 1875. The only times the show did not go ahead was the Spanish Flu in either 1918-1919, the Second World War when it was used as a military camp and this year because of Covid-19.
The Queensland Beekeepers Association was formed at a meeting at the Brisbane Show in August 1886.
