Hi Pete & All

Back when we got varroa in Ontario in the 1990’s the two ways that we were told to see if we had the little B’s was to watch for deformed wings and to put some tobacco in the smoker with a sticky board on the bottom board. I soon saw deformed wings and got some culled tobacco leaf from the farms north of Lake Erie. Wow that tobacco smoke dropped hundreds of mites in no time. I still have lots of tobacco left but hardly ever use it except when have an extremely aggressive hive. The bees don’t like it and they sure calm down quickly. It’s wise not to stand down wind from the smoker yourself.
