Dr. Jenifer Walke, Assist Prof., Eastern Washington University , is focusing her research on the microbiome of the honey bee gut. She presented some interesting results at the Bee Conference last Saturday.
>I've not searched literature but wondered if anybody had insight on the
value of screening gut contents of partial die offs or warm season deadoutsfor bacteria population patterns? (other than brood diseases)<
David Wick, BVS-Inc., Florence, MT has added bee weights and bacteria to his Nosema and virus screening services. He's added proteomics instrumentation, loaded insect bacterial data bases, and is beginning to screen samples for bacteria of the gut.
He told me about something hitting bees in USA that sounds a bit like this that's popped up here on Bee-L. Drop him a line if you've got dead/dying bees. [log in to unmask]
