Thank you Felipe.  That is exactly the explanation I was searching for.  
Each blind man reporting that part of the elephant they are touching.  I 
have also just found a poster from a German company which explains a lot 
about the use of LC-IRMS for the detection of adulterated honey. See an 
excellent poster at the link below
