I have been following this story for maybe ten years. In fact, I contacted Tom Rinderer and asked about them. He said, Why we want those bees when we already have the mite resistant Russians.
Actually, importing African bees of any sort is liable to have unforeseen consequences. At the very least, you could have a heterosis effect which could manifest as aggressive behavior.
Or they could revert to the original type, or produce a hostile variation. I have had hybrids -- you can't keep them near human habitations.
