Might be true in Canada.  US stuff has about 30 to 40% methanol depending on temp rating.  The lower the temp rating the higher the methanol.  I find mites sink like rocks in the stuff I use rated for neg 30 deg F.  Density is about 0.92 versus 0.88 for 50% isopropanol or 0.79 for 95% ethanol.  The blue does not bother me as I pour most of it off and reuse for the next batch of bees before I count.  I have rewashed lots of batches of bees and very seldom get any additional mites.
