wing gives you another week to notice a colony is trying to swarm and make
a split. At least in theory.
This can be invaluable when bad weather prevents inspections. Although the queen may have tried to swarm and not returned to the hive, at least the bees will not have been lost in a swarm. Might not be ideal, but at least you can then split the colony and save the day.
