There are now several infectious clones for DWV - type A, B and recombinants between the two. 

The presence of virus in cell lines remains a problem - both for virus characterisation and simple long-term viability of the cells. There's also the interesting (and frustrating) contradiction between the wide range of insect species DWV is reported to replicate in and its inability to replicate in insect cells lines in culture.
