I have the same question concerning the duriblity of DWV virions on hive surfaces.  It would be good to know when advising beekeepers that ask the perennial question "can just reuse the comb from a colony that died from PMS".  It may be that contact with hive surfaces carries the potential to raise virus titers in addition to varroa.
