As pointed out in papers on the subject, there's a huge difference between
a responding to a stimulus, and the feeling of pain.
I've been looking at insect behavior since my thesis work on grasshoppers showed far more behavioral plasticity than ever imagined in terms of mating and courtship behaviors.
I may be delusional, but it seems that bees display a difference in responding to a stimulus or a mild irritation than to some of the pests and chemicals. There's more than simply responding - there's evidence of some urgency of response.
