> Pete -   I don't get it, on two levels.  The prophylactic use of antibiotics in mammals and birds to stimulate growth is attractive to farmers because the animal is the product.  Are some thinking it will produce a bigger bee, thus more honey?

I don't condone the practice of feeding antibiotics to bees to stimulate growth. No, not bigger bees, but perhaps bigger colonies. Possibly more productive colonies. It's based on the principle of "whatever works" -- don't worry about the consequences. Very prevalent attitude.
