Not sure who said this, but you need to find some way for him to contribute
that increases the bee club membership, rather than killing off members.
The statement is like claiming that leaving loaded guns lying around with
the safeties off is OK, as long as you are "careful" to keep them up off the
floor where a toddler might crawl over to them.
One cannot control gusts of wind, nor can one have the presence of mind to
remember to exhale rather than inhale when something unexpected happens,
like a gust of breeze blowing a cloud of OA vapor into one's face. (I am
still constantly reminded by my wife to "exhale on exertion" when lifting
weights, something you'd think I'd at least be able to remember when working
out...)
Overall, it is all just fun and games until we start taking casualties, and
this is one of the easier ways for a beekeeping club to take casualties.
So, yeah... "respirator good, OA vapor bad". Figured that message was
well-socialized by now.
'Cause no one can avoid vapors via merely being "careful" any more than they
can avoid traffic accidents by being "careful".
