My take on follower boards... I use ten frames wide when I am drawing comb and then reduce them to nine wide when the comb is drawn. If I use a 3/4 inch follower board in the initial hive, I don't have a spare frame to deal with then I cut back to nine. I also use a follower board in hives when I am going to be watching nubees work the hives. With the follower board in the number one position, it gives them extra space to examine the remaining frames... easier on bee, too.
I have never tried two 3/8 follower boards, though I have seen them in books. Why two thin ones? Is there an advantage in insulating the sides?
