an apiary where Varroa was present and he said they would die off. They are

That's same answer we got. He's got an ecotype, suited to that specific area and its varroa pressures.
I'm confident that I could go up to UM's Luhbreht and do the same. It's an area with some open lands, surrounded by trees for many miles and few or no local beekeepers and certainly no commercial beekeepers.
