Hi Scott & All

Place the bag of syrup on the top bars, use a handy knife to cut a  
slit(3-4" long depending on the size of the bag) in the top of the  
bag.  The syrup will not run out.  A 2" rim the same dimensions as the  
box will make a robber-proof  space on top of the hive being fed.  The  
bees will take down a medium bag in a few hours and a large bag  
overnight.
