Hi all
I used to spar a bit with Bob Harrison here at Bee-l. I hope he is OK, I haven't heard from him in years. Anyway, he used to say: have one hive to play with and leave the rest alone. Fact is, an experienced beekeeper can work the average hive in five minutes or less, including evaluation and whatever action is required (if any). Usually once or twice a month is enough. For beginners, I recommend they open them up often to learn about the changes from week to week and to get experience handling them under a variety of circumstances.
