Was scanning though the "Monitoring Tips" posts and a thought came to mind (Just about blew me over - doesn't happen often). When collecting your bee sample, would knocking them into a tray with sides and letting it set a minute allow the field bees to fly while the house bees would, for the most part, remain in the tray since they hadn't done much, if any, flying before? One would then pour the proper amount of bees from the tray into the test jar. Would a sample of these house bees bee a better indicator of mite load than a mixture of house and field bees?
