I have read about DWV and others diseases being transmitted horizontally to other sister bees in the hive (and sometimes vertically, queen to egg). What is known about how the hive clears itself of infection other than the individual sick bees committing altruistic suicide? How long can the DWV, Nosema C. and paralysis viruses stay in the hive even with a newly mated, non-infected queen?
