"My Q is on ozonation which has a DYI tinkering element directed toward the sanitization. The Megan Colwell and similar presentations don't mention ozone generators as a more accessible alternative to irradiation. Is this because of an unsuitability or just an omission at this stage of research?"

Richard Bitner does quit a bit of the Ozone work,   hard to generate large volumes of it needed for the time involved.   Look him up on you tube
