> I have a colony currently that is exhibiting the trait
Me too. I spent today with bee inspectors (checking colonies for a local outbreak of EFB and also looking for small hive beetle and tropilaelaps, not sure why ...).
In one colony we saw a queen at the end of her fourth season. There was also a queen cell with a dead larva in it, so I expected a supersedure queen. Sure enough, I found her a couple of frames later.
The colony had a good 60lbs of honey - not bad given the two months with no rain that we have had - and the brood was wall-to-wall.
Incidentally, the colony shows all the traits of A.m.m. and is very good tempered.
I would be very happy if all my colonies showed the same characteristics!
Best wishes
Peter
