There are many bee keepers who seem to love essential oils as solutions to problems. Or in my opinion imagined solutions most of the time. At any rate here is a link that claims essential oils are sex hormone disruptors at very low concentrations in humans. This is a popular science article that says the paper is to be presented today at the Endocrine Society's yearly meeting. Like most popular science articles, this one probably has the story at least somewhat mucked up.

I have to wonder about a possible link between use of such oils and early queen failures. At any rate these products do not appear to be something we should be adding to our hives if the full paper shows they are as bad as claimed in this article. If they are potent enough to effect humans surely they are potent enough to effect honey bees. Numerous scientists are quoted in this article as saying these products should be used with caution.
