IMHO - 10 lbs of bees outside the hive is a misleading hyperbole.  The hive
represented must be enormous. 

 

               I have scaled hives also - modest size colonies 130 lbs -
larger in early spring- SE PA.  The weight changes we see can be nearly that
great but mostly attributable to forage success, not so much bee population.


It would be interesting to add a labeled graph to this discussion?
