Position Summary:

The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a non-tenure earning Visiting Assistant Professor position in archaeology for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Geographic area and specialization are open, but candidates exploring themes of current interest such as, for example, race, gender, migration, slavery, inequality, indigenous archaeology, community archaeology, settler colonialism, environmental change, and ethnicity will be given special attention.  In addition, applications reflecting expertise in new techniques and technologies will receive special consideration. A successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, demonstrate research potential, and have an active, field-based presence. The Department of Anthropology has archaeological lab space and houses a substantial zooarchaeological comparative collection of south Florida fauna, fish, and shells.
 Candidates will be expected to teach 6 courses (3 per semester) during the 2021-22 Academic Year. The candidate should expect to teach Archaeological Research Methods, Introduction to Anthropology, a course on a geographical region, and topically focused courses. The focus of the geographical and topical courses will be negotiated and should reflect the expertise of the successful candidate.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Anthropology from an accredited institution completed by the start of the Fall 2021 semester.

Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts). The evaluation should be scanned and electronically attached to one's application as with other US-based transcripts.

Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit official, sealed transcripts from all institutions where graduate coursework was attempted, whether or not a degree was obtained, as well as an original NACES evaluation, if applicable. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University not to you as the student.

A background check will be required for the candidate selected for this position. This position is subject to funding.
