Shane et al,
Matt is correct that Risto Nurmi's dissertation done on a series of circa 1760-1800 sites in Tornio Finland includes some examination of re-use and mending of ceramics, so it may not be exactly what Shane is searching for but possibly in the ballpark. Risto's dissertation from the University of Oulu is in English, and I suspect he would share data since he is now doing some work on ceramic re-use and mending and attempting to compare the patterns in northern Europe to other contexts; a fair amount of commonplace redware gets mended in Finnish contexts. I am not sure Risto is on the list, but he can be found at <[log in to unmask]>

Subject: [SPAM?] RE: Microscopic usewear on English ceramics
Hello Everyone,
I believe Risto Nurmi (at University of Oulu Finland) dealt with ceramic repair and use-wear.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Diana and Shane,
Alas I didn't look at use wear for my dissertation. It was focussed on manufacturing flaws.
I collected some basic data about the presence and location of use wear but nothing microscopic.
Cheers,
Penny
Hello everyone,
I have trolled through the usual sources but had no luck - does anyone have anything on microscopic usewear analysis on English ceramics? I have a tightly dated, short occupation initial colonisation site with copious ceramics and I'm trying to determine if people bought new or brought old sets for life in a new land. All help appreciated.
All the best,
Shane Burke
