Randy,
I manage Varroa in my top bar hives by adding spoonful of Thymol crystals in a tea bag close to the brood when the nest has reduced in the autumn. Often, around the end of the year, I dribble 5cc of oxalic acid 3.2% solution between top bars in the brood area, slightly easing the bars apart for the purpose. For readers who wish to find the oxalic recipe, look at the late Dave Cushman's website (the world's best beekeeping site!) : Beekeeing and Bee Breeding.
