I have a full beard and have stood in a cloud of OA fog from the provap without being able to smell a thing. It seems the particles in the fog are more than big enough for my beard to filter any leakage by the respirator. But, if your face is shaped to prevent an adequate fit there are always the mouth only respirators with nose clips. I have used those in a chlorine spill large enough the air was yellow and found them highly effective and easy to use. For those who suffer from claustrophobia they are also easier to tolerate than a mouth plus nose respirator.
