Hello All,
I am sending this on behalf of a colleague. Please send your responses
directly to Doug Sanford. Contact info is below.
From Doug:
I am conducting research on window glass from slave-related archaeological
sites and structures in Virginia. In particular, I would like to obtain
measurements (dimensions, thickness) and weights for complete windowpanes
dating from the 18th and the early to mid-19th centuries (up to 1865). Such
glass includes both clear varieties and different shades of aqua.
I am hoping that archaeologists and collection managers associated with
archaeological laboratories and/or architectural repositories will know of
the availability of such materials from sites or buildings associated with
enslaved African Americans. Still, I am more than willing to examine
complete windowpanes from any site or building associated with these time
periods.
As feasible, I am willing to travel to regional (Chesapeake) institutions
in order to measure, weigh, and photograph the windowpanes. Otherwise, I am
requesting assistance in obtaining this information. I will provide
appropriate acknowledgements for any institution that is willing to share
such information with me, particularly as I look to publishing a journal
article on my research.
