Is anyone aware of any metallurgical analysis of printing type from historic sites? I have found some discussion of type from Germany, but was wondering if anyone in the US had undertaken xrf or other analysis of archaeologically sourced printing type. We have 17th c. printing type from William Nuthead's press that operated in St. Mary's City in the third quarter of the 17th c.

Any references to published literature would be appreciated.
