Welcoming the session on Archeologies of Unfree Labor
Dear friends,
The pyramids of Egypt, the Coliseum in Rome, Stonehenge in England,
the walls of prehistoric Jericho, the earliest town in he world, the
Mohai of Easter Island, and most of the other monuments, which make
the pride of human culture, have been built by coerced labor. There
are two main means of obtaining this major resource: by physical
slavery or by conceptual slavery resulting of ideological or religious
brainwashing. Which one of the two ways is better than the other? And
what would be more rewarding for human culture: to have or not to have
such expressions of physical or mental slavery? I hope that your
forthcoming conference will face this major cultural dilemma.
Many good wishes,
Emmanuel Anati
