Heritage Practice Training Programme

The University of Leicester is working with Historic England to deliver practical, technical and specialist skills for heritage professionals to meet skills gaps identified within the sector.

Our next course is: **Commemorating the centenary: investigating the First World War on the Home Front** - Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 June 2015.

Archaeological techniques are increasingly being applied to the study of First World War battlefields in France and the Near East, and on training areas in England. The aim of this course is to inform historic environment curators, field practitioners, consultants, and members of voluntary and community groups of the diverse physical legacy that the war has left in England, and how it may be documented and conserved. With speakers from Historic England, current research students and private contractors this 2 day course promises to offer an informative and useful addition to your CPD requirements. Speakers include Wayne Cocroft (Historic England), Martin Brown (WYG) and Antony Firth (Fjordr).

Book a place for this course from only £295, including course materials, lunches and refreshments: http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/history/heritage/commemorating-the-centenary-investigating-the-first-world-war-on-the-home-front

The following course is: **Specifying Traditional Roof Repairs** - at the Heritage Skills Centre, Lincoln Castle, on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June 2015.
This 2 day course will look at the issues surrounding specifying works to historic roofs, including small and large scale repair work. It will use real life examples and demonstration rigs to take participants through; the common defects and repairs to traditional slate, tile and lead roofs, common issues involved in specifying repair work on these (e.g. cost vs correct materials/craftsmanship, sourcing traditional materials, etc) and lessons learned by those who work with traditional buildings on a daily basis. An excellent opportunity to learn from experts within the field and ask questions about projects you are involved in.

The course covers a variety of topics including:

*Specifying works on historic lead & slate roofs.
*Post industrial roofing styles.
*Pre-industrial slate roofing.
*Case study of Lincoln Castle Victorian Prison.

Book a place for this course for only £195, including course materials, lunches and refreshments: http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/history/heritage/roofing-heritage-skills-centre-at-lincoln
