That data itself is nothing other than words and numbers, but can perhaps be mined with appropriate caution.

In most cases people who collect and analyze such data pretty much assume that error terms will cancel things out if the sample size is large enough. Also always keep in mind a statistic tell you something about a population and nothing about an individual in that population.
