I become confused reading the intro to physics for dummies. I want to weigh a hive with a device e.g. Fisher or a luggage pull scale. One end of the hive bottom acts as a pivot (?) as the device lifts the other end and provides a reading.

Question: is the weight reading actual weight or does lifting the hive on a pivot affect the reading? If reading is affected, is there formula for correction? Did I crawl into some remote gyrus in my brain?

I know there's physics/math guys on this list. Thanks.
