Seems to me, all of this could be explained on the elbow and hand strain of handling supers and frames during honey extraction? This article probably pre-dated all of the carpal tunnel and other problems we now complain about regarding our hands.
In my case, the work-related mechanical damage is particularly acute in my thumbs and elbows. As I've said, my osteo-arthritis doesn't respond to bee stings in terms of any perceivable improvement. I seriously doubt that given the x-rays that my problems were venom related. Occam's Razor would suggest - too much lifting over a life-time.
