Also remember that color is due to the combination effects of many genes working in concert.  This has been likened to a fire bucket brigade.  One gene does it thing in the first bucket and the products get transfered to a second bucket where a different gene does its thing.  Then on to a third bucket and third gene.  The end color depends on the exact genetic stuff in each bucket.  So, after recombination in the queen lots of possible colors can pop out.
