I found the study to be of great interest and surprising. However, it need
not be an "either or" with regard to haemolymph vs fat bodies.
Ramsey's electron micrographs clearly show the digestion of the fat bodies,
but the mites may well slurp up haemolymph in the process (and then
disgorge the excess moisture back into the bee).
Ramsey unfortunately won't be publishing immediately--he's got two months
until he defends his thesis.
