After a workshop last year comparing sugar shake mite counts with alcohol wash mite counts (which when done according to the protocols used agreed closely), I found the speed with which bees were killed by the rubbing alcohol memorable.
I found that alcohol could euthanize a colony rapidly, with little fuss, just stuff the entrance, open the top quietly, pour alcohol generously down the seams, close and then close up. What the contact with alcohol does not do, the fumes will.
