winter so no heavy lifting and no stings.  Plus, come the next winter they
make great firewood."


The other benefit of to bar hives in Dorset (UK) is that you can take a crop of honey in the spring (dandelion/willow time) knowing that it is pure honey and not partially recycled sugar and was truly surplus to the bees' needs.  I usually make my tbhs from planks from pallets (firewood!) and the oldest is about 20 years old.  It should burn well and smell good because of the propolis lining!
