About ten years ago, I wrote a three part article on treatment free beekeeping for the ABJ. I started by saying "If I thought it would work, I would do it." I described all the success stories, and the phony baloney stuff, too.
Fact is, I never could get it to work in the Northern climate where I live. Basically, the plan now is to start over every year with nucs, package, splits, whatever. I can make as much honey as I want this way, and turn a profit.
