How can one be a "shill" when not selling anything?

Nope, the attacks are an attempt to discredit, nothing more.  
The statistics at issue are simply beyond the ken of the critics.
The researchers and the journal Science will not be "chastised", but the
critics will get some needed schooling in stats, and everyone will learn
that it helps to ask a few polite questions about the statistics before
making fraud accusations.

So I find your criticism.... insignificant.  :)
