You should be able to use beeswax for free!  When I have wood that needs waxing, either for waterproofing or for appearance, I have a lump of beeswax and a hot iron in the other, ironing the timber to open the pores before rubbing the wax on. I finish off with elbow grease.


Be warned: next time you use the iron on clothing, try it on a shirt tail or the inside of the garment first!
