Thanks for the cistern information Cregg!
What I'm looking at though is indeed a well. We excavated it with a backhoe
and the brick lining extends approximately 9 feet bgs. The drains did
divert water away from the foundation to then dump into the well later in
the period but it was originally constructed as a well.
