I don't know where to even begin to look for supporting evidence but wonder if feeding bees has changed durring the 60 year period. I do know that poeple like doolittle kept frames of honey to start his hives to raising brood and I am sure he did not count that honey in his 105 lbs of honey production from the hives he actually counted as production hives. I know shopping has changed from when I was young. I think it was langstroth that bought cheep forien honey for feeding. I wonder if the ease of feeding due to the ease of shopping has changed the out come of what happens with what is gethered when their is a flow.
Just throwing this out as one more way to maby throw a bit more confusion on what might have caused the change.
Cheers
