Brian Rogers, a small-scale beekeeper in Great Falls MT also goes to the box stores for mouse guards.  He used the metal dry wall corner strips - cut with scissors, perforated for ventilation, easy to secure, AND cheap!

This is what I use, might be the same stuff...
