If you have to mandate an obligatory AFB yearly hive inspection would you
choose early spring, late fall or any other date on the year? Does AFB have
any seasonality on mediterranean or temperate climates?
Interesting question, but why not both?
Colonies with AFB could be robbed out in late autumn, so spring might be a good time to inspect, but a late summer/autumn inspection could pick it up early.
For sure, it is a good idea to inspect before feeding as stores may be placed on top of AFB scales thus hiding them.
EFB is the more tricky disease - often invisible until a flow.
