To our valued customers,
Herewith, we would like to inform you about recent developments concerning
honey.
On 11 July 2017, an information for attention concerning the presence of
lactoprotein in Chinese honey was published in the European Rapid Alert
System for Food and Feed (RASFF). In this context, an increased number of
samples were submitted to our laboratory for testing on the milk proteins
casein and beta-lactoglobulin.
In May 2016, there were already three information for attention in the
RASFF concerning traces of milk or rather casein in acacia honey from
China. Honey samples that were submitted to our lab in this regard were
tested negative. But in the course of the recent developments, we now
observed positive results for both casein and beta-lactoglobulin.
Milk proteins which are known for their allergic potential should not be
present in pure honey. Possible sources of contamination (e. g. during
processing or sampling) should be verified and eliminated. A direct
addition of those milk proteins to honey for masking an adulteration, is
also under discussion. Internally performed adulteration tests of the
concerned samples have confirmed the assumptions that it is not about
authentic honey.
*Intertek Food Services GmbH offers accredited testing for the milk
proteins casein and beta-lactoglobulin in honey by ELISA. Further analyses
with regard to the authenticity of your honey samples is available as well.*
