It all depends upon the variables that they used. Obviously, the African
invasion really slowed down at about 30 degrees latitude, and appears to be
restricted by areas with cool winter rain, so I'm curious that their model
suggests invasion into the Pacific Northwest.
But a point of the paper is that there's no telling about hybrids. The
tropical AHB is a hybrid that was more successful than either parental type
in South and Central America. We have no idea as to whether a novel hybrid
may occur that can invade beyond the AHB's current range. And no idea
whether it would carry its trait of excessive defensiveness.
