Interesting question and thoughts. I would love to read the full paper, need to dig a bit later.
I have seen research that showed that fall pollen didn't have a lot of effect on cluster size, and as of late a lot of research that shows bigger winter clusters and stronger hives.
Seems location/ timing/ goals are huge parts of this picture. to early and it seems the cluster can get to big, and delay the timing of winter bees until its to late in some climates.
It definatly seems the trend is towards lots of protien in the fall to help with almonds, but the question in my head is "what is fall"? many wait till Jan to start the pollen sub, although there is a trend towards ealier and earlier.
