There seems to be unanimity regarding the value of treatment against mites
and keeping the infection rate below 3%. However, what is the actual
mechanism that causes a dead out in a colony in Jan. where the count is
over 6% ?

- lost amino acids in the hemolymph = pernicious anemia? ,

- suddenly overwhelmed with a virus like distemper in a dog?? - if so, has
this been demonstrated by virus titer testing ?

- or did the queen stop laying in November and there was an insufficient
number of worker bees to feed the population??

My question is, does the beekeeper community recognize any standard of a
post mortem exam of a dead out?
