I would like to make a comment on the fact that formic acid vapour is
heavier than air. It is, but as soon as it is released from the liquid acid,
it quickly diffuses into the surrounding air. Once this diffusion takes
place, it is just another component of the mixture of gases in the hive and,
like any other molecule in a gas, has no tendency to settle out. It quickly
becomes evenly distributed in the container.
