We've identified ONE pet bird related item - a Chinese sweet pea pattern
bird feeder, from San Diego Old Town.
Do you want the citation? I can't remember off hand which project it was...

Hi David,
We did a chapter in the sandpoint (ID) report on pets and work animals. The
bulk of the chapter was horse care, but we also had a bit on pets, including
a discussion of the ceramic feeder we found that was part of a bird cage
from a Chinese-occupied site. The report is big (4 volumes) and hard to
find on Idaho transportation's website. I am including the links below.
Note: there is a focused discussion of the bird cage in vol 1 (p. 67) and a
broader discussion on pets as chapter 8 in volume 2. Feel free to ping me
off list if you have questions about the project.

Subject: zooarchaeology - pet birds

Hello - is anyone aware of zooarchaeological finds identifiable as pet
birds? Or related artifacts such as bird cages or related equipment? I'm
developing a historic context for mockingbird remains found in the early
19th century Officers' Latrine at Fort Snelling in Minnesota. They appear to
be pet birds and I'm wondering if there are comparable finds elsewhere.
Thank you,
David
